Masha Somik’s expressionist, abstract paintings focus on social relationships and individual subjective states. Although composed of simple forms and mostly monochromatic colors, the Moscow-based artist’s pieces attempt to convey emotional and psychological energy through gesture. Somik translates complex constellations of emotions, energy and feelings into recognizable forms placed in novel relation to one another.
